From pre-school through post-graduate studies and specialized schools, educational opportunities in northeastern Ohio are among the best in the nation.
Approximately thirty-five institutions of higher learning are within a 50-mile drive of the heart of the region. University research plays a vital role. Case Western Reserve University, for example, is Ohio’s largest private research university. An estimated $100 million is generated annually in research projects.
The University of Akron is deeply involved in northeastern Ohio’s role as the center for polymer development with over 80% of all polymer research conducted at the University’s acclaimed Center for Polymer Science.
Kent State University’s Liquid Crystal Institute is an integral part of pioneering research for digital displays and optical sensors for a variety of applications in various industries. Other areas of research involving institutions of northeastern Ohio include cancer, nuclear power and biomedical engineering.
Many secondary schools are regarded as leaders in education, with numerous annual merit scholarship winners, and are recognized for offering a complete curriculum ranging from slow learner and modified to upgraded and honor.
Excellent private and parochial education is available. A number of such schools attract students from around the world because of the excellent innovative educational offerings.
A wide network of vocational and trade schools offer learning of skills for non-college bound students, while over 30 colleges, community colleges and universities provide courses ranging from equestrian studies to bio-medical research.
